The wider audience for thriller films in general?
Thriller films are usually aimed at teenagers and adults, as they are not suitable for a younger audience due to often involving violence and being generally scary. The American thriller 'The silence of the Lambs' is an example, being rated appropriate for 16 year old's and above. 'The Stepfather' is also rated suitable for a similar age; 15+.
The audience more specific to our sub genre?
The target audience for thrillers has a general trend of being teenagers and adults, but it can vary depending on the sub genre of the film. Our thriller is a mystery thriller. The protagonist is holding back a secret which the antagonist is keen to get to the bottom of. The whole plot is based around a librarian and his mysterious and suspicious plan. The sub genre of our thriller will effect the target audience.
The famous American thriller 'Seven' has sub genres such as mystery, psychological and crime, and includes violence and weapons(guns) therefore is given the age certificate of 18.
Our film doesn't include any gruesome or explicit scenes which means it is visually suitable for a younger audience as well as older, but it does involve having to focus and work things out, which requires quite a mature audience who enjoy doing so, which is why our target audience is 16+.
I created this Facebook profile to show a typical member of our target audience. This is what they would 'like' and be interested in. Things such as law and books are included as our film includes the protagonist being interested in books to do with law and using them whilst planning. Having an interest in the same things as this character would help to understand what he is thinking, and help to relate to him. Programs such as CSI include working out mysteries which relates to our sub genre. Being interested in psychology would make the film enjoyable as there is a mysterious character who clearly has an interesting frame of mind to work out.
This particular example of one our of our audience members is female, however this isnt our film is targeted at both males and females.
