Q4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

Describe the wider audience for thriller films in general.

Thriller films in general mainly attract an audience of adults and teenagers 15+. Thriller films can be scary and sometimes include scenes of violence and horror so would be unsuitable for a young audience. The main elements of a thriller film are suspence, tension and excitment. People who enjoy watching thriller films will experience high levels of anticipation, heightened expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and terror. Thriller films also tend to be adrenaline-rushing, gritty and fast-paced.

 

Describe the audience more specific to your sub genre.

The target audience for thriller films can vary depending on the sub-genre. My thriller is a mystery thriller. Mystery thrillers attract an audience of teenagers 15+ and adults. Mystery thrillers are for people who enjoy having to work things/people out. Suspense is often maintained as an important plot element. This can be done through the use of the soundtrack, camera angles, heavy shadows, surprising plot twists and the use of mise-en-scene. I researched some mystery thriller films to see the age certificates and why they chose that specific age. One film I looked at is called 'Arlington Road'. The age certificate is a 15. They chose to make it a 15 as there are intense/frightining scenes and scenes of violence and gore and this would be unsuitable viewing for a younger audience.

 

Describe the specific audience for your own thriller based on its USP (Unique selling point).

My thriller 'The last detail' specific audience is 16+. Our film does not include any gore/violence or explicit scenes so therefor is sutiable for this age group. However it does include some 'on the edge of your seat' scenes and we have used various camera angles that make it look like someone is watching you so therefore could be ubsuatiable for a younger audience. Our USP encourages the audience to try and work out the mystery and guess what is going to happen which requires quite a mature audience who enjoy doing this.

 

 

I created this Facebook profile to show a typical member of our target audience. These are the types of things they would 'like' and be interested in. This member of our target audience likes reading and is interested in the law system. This is a good as our film is set in a library and our main actor is reading a book about the english legal system. This member of our target audience also likes TV programs that involve working things out, this is also good as our film encourages our audience to work things out as it is a mystery thriller.
