Research into conventions of title sequences.

Research: Conventions of title sequences.

Today, we researched the conventions of film title sequences. Our first task was to make predictions about what we thought the order of a title sequence was. I then watched the opening title sequence of three films; 'The room mate', 'Taking of pelham 123' and 'Stepfather'. I then compared these three openings by creating a title sequence time line; i recorded each title that came on the screen and what time it appeared. I noticed that the name of the film appeared within the first minute and a half of the opening and the institutional information (the distribution and production company's name and logo) are the first things to appear in the opening. I also learnt that in 'The room mate' and 'Stepfather' the font size is similar; the title of a person e.g. Director is smaller than the persons name. However in 'The taking of pelham 123' the titles seemed to be quite messy, they appeared and disappeared very quickly and the font style was very hard to read. After producing title sequence time lines, we went back to our first predictions of what order we though a title sequence went in and made changes to it. After watching a few more film openings we came to a final decision of what order we thought a title sequence should go in.

This was our first prediction of what order we thought a title sequence went in. We made this prediction before watching any film openings.
This was our second prediction, we changed the order slightly after watching the opening sequence of 'The room mate'.

After viewing various film openings, we decided that this is the correct order of a film title sequence.
This is my title sequence analysis of the film 'The room mate'.

This is my title sequence analysis of the film 'Stepfather'.

This is my title sequence analysis of the film 'Taking of pelham 123'. There are some gaps in my time line as i could not read the credits very well because of the font style, the pace of the credit and background it was being shown on.
